Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding an old piano that was hidden away within her attic, then becoming fascinated with the sounds it produced. Jan Oystein Aksnes, her parents May Britt Aksnes and Jan Oystein Aksnes urged Aurora Aksnes to take up the piano as a passion or as a profession. She started writing songs of her own. In addition to Bjork She also cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. She began performing their songs in public after her mother suggested that they might help others not be famous with the work she does, but to help those around them see the significance of what they do and how they have an impact on the world. Her first piano lesson was when she was just 6 years old and began writing music when she was nine. It was not until she turned 14 that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora did not have a set goal. Her words say that she simply is a fan of writing songs. According to her, music is the best method to communicate anything.
